Methyl Ethyl Ketone

Methyl Ethyl Ketone is an organic, colorless, ketone compound that is produced for industrial uses. Methyl ethyl ketone is similar to acetone in power but less soluble in water and evaporates slower.

MEK, as it is commonly referred to, is used in processes involving gums, resins, cellulose acetate and nitrocellulose coatings and in vinyl films. It is commonly used in the manufacturing of plastics, textiles, paraffin wax, and household products such as lacquer, varnishes, paint remover, and glues. MEK is also used as a cleaning agent. MEK can be used as a plastic welding agent as it dissolves polystyrene and other plastics.
